Myanmar teams exited from the quarter-finals of the team events at the XXXIII Thailand SEA Games’ badminton competition, held on 7 December at Thammasat University.
In the women’s team event, only seven teams participated, giving host nation Thailand a bye into the semi-finals, while the remaining six teams played in the quarter-finals. Indonesia beat Myanmar by three matches to nil, Singapore defeated the Philippines by the same margin, and Malaysia overcame Vietnam by three matches to one. Thailand will face Singapore in the semi-finals, while Malaysia will meet Indonesia.
Myanmar’s women’s team contested two singles matches and one doubles match against Indonesia. In singles, Thet Htar Thuzar lost 2-1 to Putri of Indonesia, and Eaint Chit Phoo lost in straight games to Mariska of Indonesia. In the doubles fixture, the pair Su Latt and Khine Thinza were also beaten in straight games.
In the men’s team event, only seven teams took part as well, with Indonesia receiving a bye into the semi-finals. In the quarter-finals, Thailand swept Myanmar by three matches to nil, Singapore beat Laos by the same score, and Malaysia recorded a straight-matches win over the Philippines.
Myanmar’s badminton squads will continue to compete in the individual men’s and women’s singles and doubles events. — Chit Ko Ko/KZL
