Romane Miradoli finished in a good second place this Sunday during the super-G in Saint-Moritz (Switzerland), narrowly won by New Zealander Alice Robinson. This is the sixth World Cup podium for the 31-year-old French skier.
At ease on the “Corviglia”, where she finished 6th on Friday in the first descent won by Lindsey Vonn, then 15th on Saturday in the second, Miradoli confirmed the promises of last spring after a winter of doubts.
The native of Samoëns (Haute-Savoie) was only 8 hundredths ahead of Alice Robinson, best giant at the start of the season. The French Laura Gauché takes fifth place behind the American Lindsey Vonn, while the Italian Sofia Goggia ranks third on the podium.
A promising performance ahead of the Milan-Cortina Olympics
Third in March in the super-G in La Thuile (Italy), the only Blue on an alpine skiing podium all last season, Miradoli told AFP that she had considered stopping for a while, before finding the desire to “have fun” again in the run-up to the Milan-Cortina Olympics (February 6-22).
Sunday morning, she took advantage of the perfect weather conditions to take risks, where other competitors including Lindsey Vonn attacked the track more cautiously – perhaps scolded by the quarter of an hour late to plan a jump that was too pronounced, or by the fall of the German Emma Aicher, victorious the day before in the downhill.
The last event of the Grisons stage also marked the return to speed of Mikaëla Shiffrin for the first time since her heavy fall in January 2024 on the descent from Cortina (sprained left knee).
For this test ahead of the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan Cortina (February 6-22), the champion with 104 World Cup crowns missed the very last gate after a round where she was less than a second behind, starting with bib 31.
