Lionel Messi has added a 48th trophy to his bulging trophy cabinet. With Inter Miami he won the MLS Cup, which means he can call himself national champion of the United States.
In the final, in which Messi did not score but did provide two assists, Thomas Müller’s Vancouver Whitecaps won 3-1. It is the first national title in the club’s early history for Inter Miami. The club was founded by David Beckham in 2018.
Barcelona club legends Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba played their last match in professional football on behalf of Inter Miami. The duo had already announced that they would retire from football after this season.
Impressive numbers Messi
The 38-year-old Messi is not thinking about quitting for the time being. Earlier this year, he extended his contract in Miami until the end of 2028 and is also of great value to his team in terms of football.
In the American league and subsequent play-offs, Messi played 33 games this year, scoring 35 goals and providing 26 assists. Never before has anyone been involved in so many goals in one season in the MLS, the highest American football league.
