Mārupe Volleyball: Latvian Cup Champions!

The winners of the Latvian Cup in volleyball in the U14 age group were the players of the sports school team of Mārupe district, who won two victories in the final tournament held at the “Rimi” Olympic Center in Riga, the Latvian Volleyball Federation (LVF) informed.

In the semifinals, the Marupians coached by Elvja Saulīš defeated the first team of the Riga Volleyball School with 2:0 (25:29, 25:14), but in the final they beat the South Kurzeme Sports School/Aizpute team 2:0 (25:15, 25:23).

“The goal set for our team at the beginning of the season was ambitious: two championship titles – the Latvian Cup and the Latvian Championship. We are going for it. The decisive game was the semi-final with the RVS team coached by Svetlana Cepurīte, which is our fiercest competitor,” Mārupe team coach Elvis Saulīts told the LVF press service.

“We knew that the game would be intense and emotional, but we were in the mood by using the methods of visualization and positive affirmations. We won thanks to self-confidence and a positive team microclimate. The Marupe girls played powerfully in attack and selflessly in defense. Each girl did her job on the field. The invited musicians were positively surprised. The girls were excited and also got high fives from celebrities. Both of them come from Madonna, and it’s a pleasure to see successful “ours”.

The Latvian Cup competition for youth teams was organized in three age groups (U14, U16 and U19) for girls and boys. Three trophies were won by the Riga Volleyball School, one each by the Liepāja Sports Games School, Talsi District Sports School/Dundaga and Mārupa District Sports School.

As you know, in the finals of the Latvian Cup for adult teams, the volleyball players of the Mārupe Sports Center lost to the Riga Stradiņa University team 1:3.
