Man City: Rival Coach Targeted for Job?

Manchester City sees Enzo Maresca as a potential successor to Pep Guardiola, reports David Ornstein. The Italian has already worked for The Citizens and still enjoys an excellent internal reputation.

Guardiola is in his tenth season at Manchester City, in which he managed to build an impressive trophy cabinet with the club. The Spanish trainer’s contract runs until the summer of 2027 and an extension does not seem to be an option for the time being.

That is why Manchester City is already busy behind the scenes looking for a new head coach who can succeed the Guardiola era. According to The Athletic Maresca is one of the main candidates. The current Chelsea coach was previously active as coach of Manchester City Under 21 and was also part of Guardiola’s technical staff.

Maresca is still in London until 2029, with an option for an extra season. However, his position would not be completely stable, as cooperation with the club management is under tension.

After the 2-0 win over Everton last Saturday, Maresca caused a stir with a striking statement. “These have been the worst 48 hours since I became Chelsea manager,” he said, before refusing further explanation.

Guardiola previously indicated that Manchester City will probably be his last club as coach. “After that I will take a break. I don’t know yet whether I will stop permanently,” the Spaniard said in conversation with the British press.
