Man City: Maresca Next Manager? | Guardiola Replacement News

KOMPAS.com – Manchester City is preparing the worst option if Pep Guardiola decides to leave the Etihad in the near future.

Manchester City’s director of football, Hugo Viana, has compiled a list of replacement coaches who could succeed Pep Guardiola.

Quoting from One Football, a source from Manchester City said that Pep Guardiola could leave at the end of this season even though his contract is still valid until June 2027.

Even though he did not mention the reasons behind Guardiola’s plan to leave The Citizens, this is a common occurrence at many clubs.

“Of course there is a list to replace Pep,” explained the source to One Football.

“But that’s normal. If Erling Haaland leaves, we also have that list. That doesn’t mean it will happen in the next transfer window.”

“Pep sits down with his family every summer, talks to those closest to him and evaluates things. So, while there’s not much to suggest he’ll leave, the club have done their research on potential replacements, there’s no denying that.”

Enzo Maresca is on the list

Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca is reportedly included in Man City’s next coach’s plans.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano explained that Enzo Maresca has ties to The Citizens because he worked at the club’s academy and was Pep Guardiola’s assistant.

“Maresca knows Manchester City very well, and his appreciation for him has always been there,” said Romano, quoted by Tribuna.

Journalist David Ornstein reports that the Chelsea architect is on the list of candidates. Even so, the Italian coach is not a single figure.

Another source also said that Vincent Kompany was on the list to be considered after showing excellent performance as head coach of Bayern Munich.

Apart from that, The Citizens are also reportedly interested in bringing back Arsenal coach, Mikel Arteta, who was also Guardiola’s assistant at Man City.

Guardiola’s Kompany Choice

Even though management is more interested in Enzo Maresca, it seems that Guardiola already has another figure who is considered worthy of being his replacement.

Referring to his statement in 2023, Guardiola once mentioned the figure of Vincent Kompany as the future coach of Man City.

He said former captain Vincent Kompany’s “destiny to become City manager is written in the stars” and “it will happen.”

These comments were made when Kompany was still at Burnley and highlight Guardiola’s confidence in the Belgian coach’s future.

Even so, it was not an easy matter to bring the Company back to England. Kompany was quite successful with Bayern Munich and has signed a contract until 2029.
