Mali-Zambia 1-1: Daka’s Late Goal & Missed Celebration

Cirque du Soleil can continue to look for its new acrobat. Because Patson Daka is not yet ready. This Monday, the Zambian striker scored the equalizing goal in the last minute against Mali at the African Cup of Nations. But if his goal is rather nice, his celebration is on the contrary completely unsuccessful.

We were playing stoppage time and Zambia was heading towards certain defeat when the Leicester City striker saved his team. Starting deep between the two Malian central defenders to take Banda’s cross, Patson Daka placed his head out of reach of Djigui Diarra. Drunk with joy, he then launched into a pirouette which ended badly.

While attempting a first somersault, the Zambian visibly forgot to use his arms to propel himself into the air. He found himself with all four irons in the air on the ground, before his teammates threw themselves at him. More fear than harm, however, since he got up without the slightest problem. And he undoubtedly offered one of the cool images of this African Cup of Nations.

Beyond this celebration, this goal from Patson Daka allows the Chipolopolos to remain largely in the race to qualify for the round of 16. They are in 2nd place in Group A behind Morocco, winner yesterday against the Comoros (2-0).
