Former Bundesliga coach Lucien Favre has declared his career over. In fact, the 68-year-old Swiss decided to say goodbye to football some time ago, as he said in an interview with Blick revealed.
Favre coached Hertha BSC, Borussia Mönchengladbach and Borussia Dortmund in Germany. Most recently he worked at OGC Nice in France. As is now clear, his exit there in January 2023 was also the final exit from the big stage.
“It’s good for me the way it is. I decided a long time ago because I felt: everything has been done, it’s enough,” he said now.
Favre: “I’ve done enough, it’s enough!”
Of course, even after the Nice episode, there were still inquiries, “from Europe, from Saudi Arabia. I politely declined because it is definitely finished. Most people understood my message. You can always ask questions, but the answer remains clear: it’s over.”
He is confident in his decision: “Otherwise you’ll still be on the pitch at 70. I’ve done enough, it’s enough!” A football job in a different role doesn’t appeal to him either.
During his career, Favre not only trained in Germany, but also with various teams in his home country. With FC Zurich he became Swiss champion twice, among other things, but was denied a major title in Germany.
With BVB he only won the Super Cup, although with a points average of 2.01 he was one of the best coaches of the black and yellow team – even better than legends like Jürgen Klopp or Ottmar Hitzfeld.
He was most often on the sidelines for Gladbach and looked after the traditional club for 189 games. One of his greatest achievements was saving the relegation-threatened club in 2011.
