The municipality of Lubbeek today presented its multi-year plans for the next six years: an investment package of almost 37 million euros without a planned tax increase or staff restructuring, according to Mayor Davy Suffeleers (N-VA+). A striking measure is the construction of a sports hall at the new school in Pellenberg, which will open next year. The hall will also be available to local sports clubs (basketball, volleyball, badminton), which have long been asking for additional accommodation because otherwise they would have to move to neighboring municipalities.

About 16 million euros will be reserved for safer road infrastructure, with reconstruction plans for Houwaartstraat, Bollenberg and Lange Lo, among others. There will be further investment in education and out-of-school childcare. A previously examined plan to purchase the Waterhoek domain and build a swimming pond will not go ahead: the ground is too swampy, which would make the costs unacceptable.
