Liverpool’s planning for the second half of the season comes against the backdrop of uncertainty surrounding Mohamed Salah – but the club remains clear: an early departure for the Egyptian attacker is ruled out.
Salah returned to the Liverpool squad in last weekend’s 2-0 win over Brighton, but his return did little to calm the debate sparked by his harsh criticism following the 3-3 draw with Leeds. His statement that the club had “thrown him under the bus” increased public attention on his relationship with coach Arne Slot and the coaching staff.
Club position remains unchanged
In an interview with NBC Sports, David Ornstein explained The Athleticthat there is no indication from Liverpool that Salah will be allowed to leave the club in the current season. Ornstein noted that the club has not yet made a detailed statement about the situation, but several factors support the internal position.
Accordingly, Liverpool sees its commitment already proven by extending Salah’s contract until 2027 on very good terms. Salah is said to have expressed his displeasure that he was not guaranteed a regular place – but from the club’s perspective, no player, regardless of his status, receives such an assurance.

Slot had previously stated that discussions with Salah had begun before the game against Leeds – an indication that the tensions did not arise suddenly.
Poor form and role in focus
Salah’s reduced role reflects a decline in performance compared to last season, in which he contributed significantly to the title win with 29 goals and 18 assists. In the current season he has four goals and three assists in 14 league games and was not in the starting line-up in the last four league games. He scored his last goal to date in the win against Aston Villa on November 1st.
These personnel decisions raise questions about how Salah fits into Slot’s changing gaming system – especially given the double burden in national and international competitions.

Liverpool are among the clubs monitoring the situation but are expected to cautiously consider whether a transfer makes sense given the squad’s overall needs.
Liverpool’s priority at the moment appears to be stability: Salah is expected to remain part of the team as the club enters a crucial phase of the season.
