Liverpool Fan Attack: Driver Sentenced 21 Years 6 Months

The 54-year-old man, who drove into Liverpool football club supporters in May “in a fit of rage” was sentenced to 21 years and 6 months in prison by the British courts, we learned on Tuesday.

Paul Doyle “used his vehicle as a weapon” and “provoked horror in those who thought they were participating in a day of joy”, underlined the prosecutor during the hearing which has lasted since the start of the week before the Liverpool Criminal Court.

“A fit of rage”

On May 26, this father was driving his car to pick up a friend who had participated in the parade celebrating the “Reds” victory in the English championship, when he found himself among the supporters gathered in the city center.

He “lost his composure in his desire to get where he wanted to go,” prosecutor Paul Greaney said. In “a fit of rage, he rushed into the crowd, with the intention of causing serious injury to the people there,” and injured around a hundred people. Paul Doyle was arrested at the scene and taken into custody. “I just ruined my family’s life,” he told police.
