Ligue 2: Red Star Win After Bastia Smoke Bomb Incident

Red Star recovers three points. 17 days after the Ligue 2 match stopped due to a smoke bomb being thrown at a player from the Ile-de-France club, the disciplinary committee of the Professional Football League (LFP) declared the match lost in Bastia. This match, played on December 5, counted for the 16th day of the championship.

“After reading the investigation report”, the disciplinary committee pronounced among the sanctions the “loss by penalty of the SC Bastia – Red Star match”, it is indicated in a press release from the LFP. “The sanction takes effect immediately,” it is noted.

Red Star now 2nd

The Corsican club, bottom of L2, also receives a suspended one-point withdrawal, while the East stand of the Armand-Cesari stadium will be closed for four matches, according to the same source. On December 16, the Corsican supporter in question, a repeat offender, was given a six-month suspended prison sentence and a five-year stadium ban.

If Bastia therefore remains stuck in 18th and last place with only 8 points, Red Star recovers three and takes the opportunity to climb to second place, with 32 points, three lengths behind leader Troyes.

On December 5, the Bastia-Red Star match was definitively stopped shortly before the hour mark, when the score was goalless, following the throwing of a smoke bomb onto the field from the kop of the Bastia supporters. The projectile landed on the back of Audonian defender Bradley Danger and referee Romain Gaillouste called everyone involved in the match to return to the locker room after an exchange with the delegate.
