Lens & Haidara: Stranger Things Transfer Reveal

The communications team of the Lens football club has struck again. After announcing, this summer, the arrival of French international Florian Thauvin using the codes and graphics of the famous cartoon The Simpsons, the Lens communities managers have this time used the dark and disturbing universe of the successful series Stranger Things to formalize the signing of their new player, midfielder Amadou Haidara.

In a video published on social networks, Eleven, one of the main characters of the series, turns on (in a sequence taken from the first season of Stranger Things) the TV and discovers that “strange things are happening at Racing”, that “unusual situation”, “RC is leader of Ligue 1 ahead of PSG”. Especially when the winter transfer window only officially begins on January 1, “Racing would have already signed a new recruit”.

“The transfer window gives rise to eagles” even jokes the club, renamed StrangerRacing for the occasion, in a nod to Haidara’s former club… RB Leipzig, whose sponsor is the energy drink Red Bull.

The arrival of the Malian international (48 caps) is a message full of ambition from the Lensois club, visibly determined to play spoilsport and lead roles in Ligue 1 until the end.

The 27-year-old player has signed with the Sang et Or until 2029, the Artesian club said on its website. According to L’Équipe, Lens would have only paid 3 million euros, including bonuses, to afford this very experienced player but lacking playing time this season in Leipzig, where he had been playing since 2019.

His arrival should strengthen a key sector of the Lens game system, where his compatriot Mamadou Sangaré is already playing. The two players are currently in Morocco to compete in the African Cup of Nations with their national team.

“Amadou has established himself in Leipzig as one of the best midfielders in the Bundesliga and his technical, projection and recovery qualities are now recognized in Europe,” greeted Jean-Louis Leca, the sporting director of RC Lens, quoted in the club press release.
