Harrie Lavreysen has won the national title in the keirin event for the seventh time in Apeldoorn. The Brabander, who was recently named Sportsman of the Year for the second time in a row, was too fast for Daan Kool and Jeffrey Hoogland on the first day of the National Track Cycling Championships in Apeldoorn.
Five-time Olympic champion Lavreysen wrote history this fall by winning four gold medals at the world championships in Chile. This brought his total to 20 world titles. In February he also expanded his collection of European titles to fourteen.
Despite that status, enthusiast Lavreysen never hesitated to take a shot at the Dutch titles between Christmas and New Year’s Eve. Lavreysen won his first National Championship title on the keirin in 2018 and extended the title each time. The National Championships were canceled in 2020 due to the coronavirus.
Titles Van der Peet, Heijnen and Hoppezak
It is different for the Dutch sprint queen, Hetty van de Wouw. Van de Wouw, good for three world titles in Chile, last participated in the national title battle in 2021 and now failed to attend.
Steffie van der Peet was thus able to extend her title in the sprint, her sixth Dutch title in total. She defeated Kimberley Kallee in the final. Lonneke Geraerts captured the bronze.

Vincent Hoppezak, who became European champion in the pairs race with Yanne Dorenbos in February, became Dutch champion in the scratch section. The silver went to Rik van der Wal, the bronze went to Dorenbos.
In the points race, Hoppezak and Dorenbos fell short of the podium. The title went to Philip Heijnen, who was accompanied by Marvin Peters and road cyclist Maikel Zijlaard. Tudor’s pacer has been racing on the velodrome from an early age and is a welcome guest at Six Days.
Bredewold is too fast for teammates
This applies to a lesser extent to Mischa Bredewold, but the winner of, among other things, the Amstel Gold Race, can call herself the Dutch individual pursuit champion.
Bredewold completed the four kilometers faster than her teammates in the SD Worx-Protime road team Lorena Wiebes and Lisa van Belle. For Bredewold it is the third national title in a row in this event.
Last week Wiebes became Dutch omnium champion at the Alkmaar cycling track. Jan-Willem van Schip did the same for the men. For both it was their third title in that event.
The National Track Cycling Championships in Apeldoorn last until Monday.
