The Badminton World Federation (BWF) was amazed at the overwhelming performance of Korean badminton. Ahead of the ‘King of Kings’ World Tour Finals, which opens on the 17th, BWF featured the possibility of Korean players setting new records on its official website.
BWF defined this season as a “historic season” and singled out the group of Ahn Se-young (Samsung Life Insurance) and Seo Seung-jae – Kim Won-ho (Samsung Life Insurance) as the ‘record-chasers’ at the center of it.
This is a part that goes beyond simple praise and makes you feel awe.
The one who attracts the most attention is definitely ‘Shuttlecock Empress’ Ahn Se-young. According to BWF analysis, Ahn Se-young will break the record for ‘highest winning percentage in a single season’ in badminton history just by reaching the semifinals (semi-finals) of this tournament (based on participation in 60 or more games).
Ahn Se-young’s report card this season is unrealistic. They achieved 63 wins in 67 games in 14 competitions. The win rate is a whopping 94.0%. In terms of detailed game gains and losses, the win rate soars to 95.1%.
Ahn Se-young, who has already collected 10 trophies, will achieve her 11th win of the season if she wins this King of Kings Tournament. This ties the record for most wins in a single season set by Japan’s Kento Momota in 2019. If limited to female athletes, this is an unprecedented record. Ahn Se-young is in Group A with Akane Yamaguchi, Tomoka Miyazaki (Japan), and Putri Kusuma Wardani (Indonesia), and is aiming to hit the legend.

Seo Seung-jae of men’s doubles is unrivaled in the number of wins. Together with his partner Kim Won-ho, he won 10 gold medals this year alone. Adding to this the Thailand Masters victory he won in partnership with Jinyong (Yonex) at the beginning of the year, Seo Seung-jae has already achieved 11 wins this season as an individual, putting him on par with Kento Momota.
