Koeman: KNVB Sets Clear Netherlands Exit Point

The KNVB will only talk to Ronald Koeman about his future after the World Cup. According to director Marianne van Leeuwen, the end of the tournament is an ‘imaginary finish line’ for the national coach and the KNVB.

“In the coming six months, everything for us will be focused on the World Cup,” says a steadfast Van Leeuwen Algemeen Dagblad. “Both Ronald and we as management agree that we will only discuss the future after the tournament. Not a day earlier. The World Cup is a very important benchmark for us, an imaginary finish line.” The World Cup is this summer in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

Van Leeuwen also says that the KNVB has great ambitions for the upcoming World Cup. “That would also only distract from the main thing: we want to win the World Cup. It is no secret that that is our great ambition, of course also that of Ronald. That takes precedence over everything else.” The Dutch team will be in a group with Japan, Tunisia and the play-off winner between Albania, Sweden, Poland or Ukraine in the coming World Cup.
