The Dane refers to the first Amsterdam goal, in which Mika Godts was sent into the depths and had to fight a sprint duel with Blokzijl. The Belgian easily passed Groningen’s central defender and then outwitted goalkeeper Etienne Vaessen with a clever passing action.
“We often talk about Blokzijl as a talented central defender, but that one moment he almost dismissed it for me,” begins the critical Perez.
Presenter Milan van Dongen then asks whether Perez is mainly referring to Blokzijl’s speed, to which the analyst resolutely answers: “Yes, because Godts is not super fast either.”
From that moment Perez ultimately draws a painful conclusion. “If you are beaten like that, at such a long distance, then you are actually unsuitable for top football,” he concludes.
Blokzijl is a youth exponent of Groningen and made his debut for the main squad at the beginning of 2023. So far he has made 88 appearances for Dick Lukkien’s team. He scored once: the crucial equalizer in the home match against Ajax last season.
FC Groningen finally managed to win again this weekend: 0-2 against Excelsior. The last victory of Lukkien’s team was at the end of October, against Fortuna Sittard. Despite the disappointing results, the people of Groningen are still in a respectable sixth place.
