Juris Belmers: Latvian Motorsport Legend Dies

On Friday, at the age of 85, the successful racing driver of the last century died Juris Belmerreports the Latvian Automobile Federation (LAF).

LAF reports that Belmers was one of the most popular athletes in Latvia in the seventies and eighties and gathered more than 100,000 spectators at the Biķernieki track.

Starting in road races, Belmer won seven USSR championship titles with his number 42 “Volga” car, and also collected ten victories in “Dzintara Volga” races.

Throughout his career, Belmer set many speed records on various tracks, won more than 100 medals and also became a champion in rally and racetrack racing.
