John Herdman to Indonesia: Announcement Date?

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

John Herdman will almost certainly be the new coach Indonesian National Team. However, when will this man from England be announced by PSSI?

On Thursday (18/12), the PSSI Executive Committee (Exco) held a meeting. In the meeting, it was agreed that the coach who would be trusted to be the captain of the Indonesian National Team was Herdman.

PSSI General Chair Erick Thohir is said to be directly announcing the recruitment of the former Canadian national team coach. It’s just that the time hasn’t been confirmed yet.

Endri Erawan, member of the PSSI Exco, said that the announcement of the new coach for the Indonesian National Team would be announced no later than the end of December 2025 or no later than the beginning of January 2026.

“Hopefully this month or at the latest next month a new coach will be announced,” said Endri at a press conference at Menara Mandiri on December 16.

Another PSSI Exco member, Ahmad Riyadh, also could not provide a definite date. He only hinted that PSSI would announce the status of the new coach for the Indonesian National Team soon.

December is usually the right time to sign a contract. Usually, a player or coach’s contract ends in December.

Shin Tae Yong, for example, was introduced by PSSI as coach of the Indonesian National Team on December 28 2019. Patrick Kluivert is also willing to become coach of the Indonesian National Team in December 2024.

However, it is also possible that the contract will be signed in January. Kluivert, for example, was officially announced by PSSI as coach of the Indonesian National Team in January 2025.

So when will John Herdman be announced as coach of the Indonesian National Team? Until now there is no sign that PSSI will announce it in December 2025.
