There was a lot of expectation. The presence of figures such as Juan Fernando Quintero, James Rodríguez, Santiago Arias, David Ospina, inter alia. Not everyone arrived at the Sur Sports Center for the second edition of Envigadeño Football Day, which took place this Friday. The left back didn’t arrive either. Frank Fabrawho recently ended his relationship with Boca Juniors of Argentina after a decade. However, the Choco striker was on the Sports Center field. John Cordoba, one of the scorers for Krasnodar of Russia.
Córdoba, 32 years old, trained in “La Cantera de Héroes” and debuted with Envigado on October 8, 2010 as a professional soccer player. Since then, he had experiences in soccer in Mexico, Spain, Germany and Russia, until he fulfilled his dream of joining the Colombian National Team, with which he hopes to be in the World Cup.
The scorer does not forget his roots. Every time he comes to Medellín he visits the club where he was formed.
Quintero and footballers like Nacional midfielder Mateus Uribe usually do the same. The 34-year-old midfielder, who was a key player in the purslane team winning the BetPlay Cup title, was also present at the match.
Since last year, when he was still playing in the Middle East, Uribe said that in Colombian soccer he would only play for Nacional, where he arrived in January of this year, and for Envigado, the club where he trained and made his debut in Creole soccer on February 5, 2012.
For this reason, at halftime of the friendly match between the youth players and the “Selección Antioquia”, the organization led by businessman Andrés Montoya, paid tribute to Uribe and Córdoba: both received a shirt with the colors of the Colombian National Team as a way to recognize that, on the one hand, one has already participated in a World Cup –Uribe–, while the other is emerging as a candidate to do so next year.
James Rodríguez, captain of the Colombian National Team, was invited, but did not arrive at the event. His absence was confirmed shortly before the event began. Neither did Juan Fernando Quintero, Kevin Castaño, James by David Ospina, who were the great attractions of an event.
Who came to the meeting?
Despite the absence of several figures, some of whom were trained in “La Cantera de Héroes”, such as James, the match was played with the presence of other players who have stood out in Colombian football.
He Former Colombian midfielder Fredy Guarín, Medellín midfielder Diego MorenoAtlético Nacional player Juan Manuel Zapata, Edwin Cardona, Yeison Guzmán, Andrés Cadavid, Alexis Zapata, Daniel Londoño, Andrés Téllez, among others.
Sebastián Villa, who this year was a figure for Independiente Rivadavia of Argentina in the Argentine Cup title they won – he was chosen as the best player of the match – was also present at the match. The Antioquia coach also attended the South Sports Center. Luis Fernando Montoya, who was also at the Atanasio in the Betplay Cup final between Medellín and Nacional. He was one of those affected by the fights.
A show that captivated
After they were given the shirts, the soccer players posed with minors who entered the Poli field to take photos with them. Attention was not only focused on the winners. Freddy Guarín also won it, as well as Edwin Cardona, who plays for Nacional.
The meeting was entertaining. Those who attended the stadium enjoyed the good show. The game ended with a resounding 7-3 victory for the team made up of youth players. In the end, Envigade football brought together all its figures, although not everyone who was expected arrived.
