Diagnosis there: Liverpool’s record transfer Isak will be out for a long time
145 million striker Alexander Isak is fouled with serious consequences by a former Bundesliga professional. After the injury became known, Liverpool coach Arne Slot is now criticizing.
Liverpool FC will have to be without their star striker Alexander Isak for months. The 26-year-old is out with an ankle injury and a broken fibula, the English Premier League club announced. The offensive player, who came from Newcastle United in the summer for 145 million, has already had an operation. “This is a big disappointment for him and therefore also for us,” said coach Arne Slot at a press conference.
Slot calls van de Ven’s entry “reckless”
Isak sustained the injury on Saturday in the 2-1 win at Tottenham Hotspur. After an assist from German international Florian Wirtz, the Swede took the lead to 1-0, but was injured when he was brought down by former Wolfsburg player Micky van de Ven.
“If you do this tackle ten times, in my opinion there is a serious risk that a player will get seriously injured every time,” said Slot, criticizing the Dutchman’s “reckless” approach.
Isak, who played for Borussia Dortmund between 2017 and 2019, twisted his left foot, remained on the ground in visibly pain and ultimately had to be helped off the pitch by support staff. The striker had scored three times for Liverpool in 16 games this season.
