JAKARTA – The Indonesian men’s doubles badminton team was forced to come back from a lead against Singapore in the semi-final to secure a final ticket to the 2025 East Asian Games being held in Thailand.
The Red-White men’s badminton team struggled to defeat the opposing team with a convincing score of 3-1 in the event which took place at the Thamasat Rangsit 4 gymnasium on Monday, December 8, 2025, late in the day.
The only point Indonesia lost was in the first game. Alwi Farhan, who fought against 2021 world champion Loh Kean Yew, suffered a defeat in three games 15-21, 21-14 and 8-21.
Patience of the employee Gutama/Mohammad Reza Pahlevi Isfahani who went down to the second party then equalized the score. They defeated the Eng Keat pair Wesley Koh/Junsuke Kubo in three games 21-18, 18-21 and 21-10.
Indonesia then extended its lead when Mohammad Zaki Ubaidillah went down as the second table tennis player in the third party. The 2025 Asian junior champion stopped Jia Heng Jason Teh in an easy two-game straight game 21-2 and 21-13.
The victory of the Indonesian men’s badminton team was determined in the quarter-final. Leo Rolly Carnando/Bagas Maulana who came down was able to stop Donovan Willard Wee/Jia Hao Howin Wong in two direct games 21-12 and 21-19.
Indonesian badminton is the champion of the Southeast Asian region. In Cambodia in 2023, they brought home gold after beating Malaysia 3-1 in the final.
In this year’s final match, Indonesia is sure to meet Malaysia. The neighboring country looked comfortable in advancing to the men’s pairs final after closing out a 3-1 win over hosts Thailand.
Previously, this noon, Indonesia was also able to secure a ticket to the finals of the two-year multi-cabin sports series in the women’s doubles sector. Kusuma Wardani and his colleagues reached the final after defeating Malaysia already 3-2.
