The list of selected principals for the sixth Tsai Chongxin “Teaching People through Physical Education Principal Plan” was recently announced. 10 principals from primary and secondary schools across the country were on the list. Jin Xiaodong, Secretary of the Party Committee of Hangzhou Jiangnan Experimental School, became the only candidate in Zhejiang Province.

The Tsai Chongxin Charity Foundation launched the “Teaching Principals through Physical Education” program in 2019. Promoting the healthy growth of young people is also an important part of building a sports power. Recently, five departments including the Ministry of Education jointly issued the “Opinions on Implementing the Student Physical Fitness Plan”, proposing to fully guarantee physical education time and actively promote comprehensive physical activity time for primary and secondary school students to be no less than two hours a day.

Faced with the issue of “balance between physical education and academic studies” that parents are concerned about, Jin Xiaodong expressed his understanding: “In junior high school, the learning content is obviously more than in primary school. Among the graduates of Jiangnan Experimental School, there are some who served as the captain of the school basketball team and were admitted to Peking University, as well as experts who can play football and play the violin. At the just-concluded 15th National Games, two graduates of Jiangnan Experimental School won the championship. “Sports plays a fundamental role in the five educations of morality, intelligence, physical education, art, and labor.” Jin Xiaodong said that this concept has been fully practiced in Jiangnan Experimental School.
