Anxious minutes for basketball fans: Franz Wagner had to limp off the field while being supported during the game against the New York Knicks. An MRI scan will show how serious the Berliner’s knee injury really is.

World and European champion Franz Wagner is threatened with another forced break in the NBA. As was the case a year ago, the Orlando Magic basketball star was hit at the beginning of December. Wagner apparently injured his left knee in the game against the New York Knicks. It is still unclear how bad it is, the Berliner is scheduled to undergo an MRI scan on Sunday after returning to Florida. Orlando announced this.

Wagner was injured landing under the basket with 4:43 minutes left in the first quarter. He had previously been fouled by his German opponent Ariel Hukporti while trying to catch a high pass. The 24-year-old was holding his knee and initially couldn’t get up on his own, so he put his hands in front of his face. Wagner later limped towards the cabin with one leg supported on both sides. The franchise announced that the German international would not return to the field.

Wagner’s older brother Moritz tore a cruciate ligament in his left knee just over a year ago and missed this year’s European Championships. The 28-year-old is about to make his comeback with Orlando. Exactly a year ago to the day, the club announced that Franz Wagner was out due to an abdominal muscle injury. He was missing from his team for weeks afterwards.

By the time he was eliminated, Wagner had scored seven points in 7:17 minutes; European champion Tristan da Silva failed to hit any of his seven shots in the 100:106 defeat at Madison Square Garden. Hukporti recorded six points and seven rebounds.
