FIFA finally backtracked. Indeed, faced with general indignation caused by prices considered exorbitant for the 2026 World Cup, the governing body of world football announced the establishment of a new category of reduced price tickets. According to Daily Mail Sportaround 10% of each qualifying nation’s allocations will now be available at around 55 euros, covering all matches, including the opening match and the final. The decision follows discussions with national federations, including the FA and the German FA, and represents a significant victory for supporters’ associations and fans who rallied against the initial prices.
Initially, the cheapest tickets for England’s opener against Croatia were set at £200 (€230), while the minimum price to attend the final was over £4,000, close to €4,600. The new category, called Supporter Entry Tier, will be priced at approximately €55 per match for each of 104 matches, according to a FIFA spokesperson. Facing record demand, with more than 20 million requests already at this stage, a raffle could be used to distribute these tickets among supporters, allowing more loyal fans to follow their team on the biggest stage in world football.
