FIFA Awards: World Footballers Revealed

Next Tuesday, FIFA will name the world footballer of the year. As the world football association announced two days in advance, the winners of this year’s vote will be announced at a gala dinner in the Qatari capital Doha from 6 p.m. Goalkeepers and coaches also receive awards, and fans were able to vote on the best team for women and men.

The favorites for the world footballer award are the Frenchman Ousmane Dembélé (Paris Saint-Germain), who already received the Ballon d’Or this year, and Spain’s only 18-year-old European champion Lamine Yamal (FC Barcelona). Bayern Munich attacker Harry Kane is also among the nominees to succeed Vinícius Júnior. In addition to Champions League winner Gianluigi Donnarumma, who moved from PSG to Manchester City in the summer, Munich’s Manuel Neuer can also hope for goalkeepers. However, like former DFB coach Hansi Flick (FC Barcelona), he only has outsider chances in the coaching election against Paris premier class winner Luis Enrique.

For the women, the focus from a German perspective is on Ann-Katrin Berger, who could be named FIFA World Goalkeeper. The English European champion Hannah Hampton and Cata Coll from Spain are also nominated. Among the field players, Aitana Bonmatí, who is currently injured, has won her third award in a row. England’s Sarina Wiegman is the trainer’s favorite after successfully defending her European Championship title. Fans, the current captains and coaches of the men’s and women’s national teams and selected media representatives took part in the vote. The world association has been honoring the FIFA world footballer since 1991. Between 2010 and 2015, FIFA and the newspaper “France Football”, which launched the Ballon d’Or in 1956, cooperated and only awarded one prize together as the FIFA Ballon d’Or.
