Charleroi held on to Genk (2-2) to start this new Pro League day. The Zebras had the opportunity to take the lead, they ultimately had to fight until the end to come back to the score.
Less than a week after Charleroi’s first meeting without Rik De Mil on his bench, Mambourg hosted another first, that of Genk without Thorsten Fink. For this interim duel against Domenico Olivieri, Hans Cornelis relaunched Martin Delavallée in goal following the departure of Mohamed Koné to the CAN.
For the rest, it was the same eleven as last weekend: despite his saving goal against the Union, Antoine Colassin found his place on the bench. In the Limburg camp, Daan Heymans was a good starter for his return to the Black Country, unlike Jarne Steuckers.
The first opportunity to be had arrives shortly before the quarter of an hour, and it is to the credit of Genk. But above all, Zakaria El Ouahdi’s shot allowed Martin Delavallée to warm his gloves at his near post. The Carole goalkeeper, on the other hand, was helpless when Racing opened the score a minute later. Overcome, he could only observe all the mischief of Bryan Heynen to beat Chieck Keita on a return to touch and put his team in control of an acrobatic recovery (14th, 0-1).
Stunned, Charleroi only really reacted in the third quarter of an hour. The first streaky possibility comes from a cross from Antoine Bernier at the far post. Perfect Guiagon then delivered perfectly to the small rectangle for Aurélien Scheidler, who saw his recovery blocked in front of the goal line.

Finally launched, Charleroi ended up equalizing three minutes from regulation time. On a corner returned full axis, Yacine Titraoui took the ball with first intention and cannoned out of reach of Hendrick Van Crombrugge (42nd, 1-1).
In the middle of the highlight, Sporting came close to completely reversing the situation just before returning to the locker room, with a new breakthrough from Titraoui to isolate Guiagon. But the latter did not take advantage, placing the ball over, 1-1 at rest. No change for the restart, but an intervention from each goalkeeper from the first five minutes on strikes from El Ouahdi and Titraoui, two of the best men on the pitch.
Genk bends but does not break
Enough to set the tone for an unbridled second half, with spaces and two teams going from one rectangle to another like in moneytime. Charleroi almost took advantage, but the free kick forced at the entrance to the rectangle and taken by Patrick Pflücke crashed on the bar.
While several other hot situations gave Sporting the impression that they were close to going ahead, the coin fell to the visiting camp. And on this occasion, Charleroi can only blame itself. On the fateful free kick, no one was marking on Bryan Heynenwho scored a double without the slightest opposition at the far post (69th, 1-2).
With their backs against the wall again, the Zebras went on the attack again. But neither the penalty requested in vain by Scheidler, nor the strikes from Guiagon and Pflücke in the rectangle allowed Hans Cornelis’ men to come back to score. On the other hand, Delavallée even had to intervene to prevent Oh from making the break.

As added time loomed, Carolos’ efforts still ended up being rewarded. As against the Union, the end of the match and the stopped phases made Mambourg exult, after a save worthy of a volleyball player from Hendrick Van Crombrugge which delayed the deadline by a few seconds. It was Perfect Guiagon, left almost as alone as Heynen at the far post, who took care of the 2-2 to secure the tie. Same verdict as last weekend, a new convincing performance to be credited to Hans Cornelis and his men.
