Last summer, Sofiane Feghouli decided – to everyone’s surprise – to sign in the Iraqi championship by joining Amanat Baghadad SC. However, the Fennec with 82 caps did not last long there since the club decided, after 4 months of collaboration, to terminate his contract for technical reasons. A separation that was amicable.
By entering an Arab championship, Feghouli probably wanted to give himself the opportunity to compete in the 2025 FIFA Arab Cup (December 1 – 18) with thenational team A’ of Madjid Bougherra. The idea was to complete his international career. Unfortunately, the plan did not go as planned. The attacking midfielder has never really found his feet in Irak.

In total, he will have only competed 6 matches (3 only as starter) in all events (championship and cup) for 1 goal. His last appearance was on November 8th passed against Karbala’A FC in the cup as captain. The contribution was not what was expected. This is why his employer decided to end the collaboration. “The Amanat Baghdad club extends its thanks and recognition to the Algerian players Sofiane Feghouli and Tunisian Hamdi Abidi for their commitment during their time with our team”noted management in a press release, specifying that “the termination of the contract was done amicably, in a climate of mutual respect and understanding. »
A 36 ansone of the emblematic players of the selection therefore finds himself free on the market? Will he hang up or move to a club during the winter transfer window? That remains to be seen. There remains the possibility of seeing him freelance in the Algerian championship where his name was announced last summer. However, this possibility remains unlikely given the bad experiences of Fennecs who decided to try the local adventure.
