Falling on the wire and for the fourth time in a row, Thursday during the 15th day of the Euroleague, against Zalgiris Kaunas (108-105), Paris basketball continues to slow down on the European scene, and remains stuck in the second part of the table.
For its part, Asvel (20th) also lost again in a poorly ranked duel against Maccabi Tel-Aviv of Lonnie Walker IV (29 pts, 9 rebounds) and suffered its 12th defeat of the season. The meeting was symbolic for Maccabi, since it marked the official return of the Israeli Euroleague teams to their courts after more than two years of relocated “home” matches (to Belgrade for Maccabi).
Paris out of breath
The Parisians, who have only two successes in their last ten matches, and remained on a slap inflicted away by Monaco (125-104), once again saw their defense undermined by Zalgiris, who notably offered themselves a third quarter with 32 points to take the upper hand (80-73). But they also did not come far from reversing the destiny of the meeting.

Combative in the last 10 minutes, Francesco Tabellini’s men, buoyed by Nadir Hifi’s 27 points (5 assists), set their Arena Porte de la Chapelle on fire by managing to rally in the final minutes. In vain. Hifi’s last three-point attempt, to try to equalize, narrowly escaped the circle.
After a more than successful first exercise in the Euroleague last season, and a qualification for the quarter-finals, the Parisians have not yet found the formula of regularity this season. In particular, they have to deal with a wave of departures, from former Brazilian coach Tiago Splitter, to many team executives such as leader TJ Shorts, Kevarrius Hayes, Tyson Ward and Mikael Jantunen.
Another veteran of the house, Maodo Lo played this evening for Zalgiris. But he weighed less offensively (6 pts) than his other teammates, starting with the Frenchman Sylvain Francisco, author of a huge match. The French international concluded his score with 26 points, four rebounds and five assists.
