The two former Olympic champions are withdrawing from the CA in order to avoid any risk of conflict of interest.
To avoid any risk of conflict of interest, the former boss of the Paris-2024 Games Tony Estanguet and the biathlete Martin Fourcade have decided “of their own will” to leave the board of directors of the organizing committee for the 2030 Winter Games, the latter announced Monday evening.
“Upstream” of a board of directors scheduled for Monday, “two directors, Tony Estanguet and Martin Fourcade, have expressed their desire to end their mandate, which meets the objective of taking all necessary precautions to ensure the highest level of compliance in the context of their future professional activities”indicated the Organizing Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games (Cojop) 2030 in a press release. “They will continue, each in their own way, to play an important role in the four years to come to contribute to the success of French Alps 2030”it is indicated.

Tony Estanguet, three-time Olympic canoe champion, was at the head of Cojop for the 2024 Paris Games. Martin Fourcade, multi-Olympic champion expected for months to be president of the organizing committee for the 2030 Olympics, finally threw in the towel in February 2025.

Sunday on EurosportEdgar Grospiron, president of Cojop 2030, indicated that Tony Estanguet was withdrawing “from his mandate as administrator because we are in the process of preparing the work and Tony also has professional activities which may be in conflict of interest. We absolutely must not see this as the loss of his support, we will always have his support but not as an administrator”he added.
Furthermore, Cojop indicates that the board of directors on Monday also “permitted to discuss with the administrators on the work in progress on the preferential scheme of the site map” where the 2030 Olympics will take place, on which there are still several unknowns, such as the definitive reintegration of Val d’Isère into the project to host the technical alpine skiing events, or the location in Italy or the Netherlands of the speed ring.

“It was an opportunity to announce the objective of finalizing the work on the site map by the board meetings scheduled for March 30 and June 29, 2026”specifies the press release. “Due to the ambition of our project, the road is still long, but we are now moving forward structured and united behind the same vision to offer Games that will make us collectively proud”declared Edgar Grospiron, quoted in the press release.
