Jalen Hurts threw two touchdown passes and the Philadelphia Eagles earned their second straight sectional title on Saturday, winning 29-18 against the Washington Commanders.
However, it wasn’t a great performance from the reigning Super Bowl champions: they fumbled the ball early in the game and missed three field goal attempts.
Hurts had 185 passing yards (of his 22 of 30 completions, nine were caught by AJ Brown and six by DeVonta Smith).
His touchdown passes went to Smith in the first quarter and to Dallas Goedert in the third quarter.
In the latter case, the 15-yard connection capped an 83-yard drive in 17 plays and 10 and a half minutes.
Hurts added 40 yards on seven carries for the Eagles (10-5), victorious for the second time in a row, after three straight losses.
Saquon Barkley rushed for 132 yards, including a 12-yard rush for a touchdown.
Washington lost for the ninth time in 10 outings, bringing the club’s record to 4-11.
Cooper DeJean, of the Eagles, made an interception at the expense of Josh Johnson. The latter replaced Marcus Mariota, who injured his right hand early in the third quarter.
Will Shipley of the Eagles fumbled the ball after receiving the kickoff when hit by Mike Sainristil.
The Commanders got a field goal.
Eagles precision kicker, Jake Elliott sent the ball too far left on three occasions in the first half (from 43, 57 and 52 yards).
Philadelphia outscored 385-220 in total yards.
Author of a 10th touchdown this season, Goedert tied the Eagles’ record for a tight end in a season (Pete Retzlaff, in 1965).
