OTHER Lionel Messi has been named MLS Most Valuable Player for the second year in a row after leading Inter Miami to the national title. The prize was awarded after a vote in which club officials, players and journalists took part. Messi left the competition far behind with 70.43% of the votes. Behind him is Anders Dreyer, ex-Anderlecht player, who had an exceptional season in the San Diego shirt.

Signed from RSCA at the end of January, the Dane immediately exploded in the MLS, with 23 goals and 17 assists in 39 games. With 11.15% of the votes, Dreyer finishes second in the overall standings, but he still takes home an important trophy: that of Newcomer of the Year, a logical recognition for his immediate impact and lightning-fast adaptation to the American Championship. With this he has become one of the great revelations of North American football and the directors of the Purple & White may be scratching their heads…
