DOSB Olympic Schedule: Latest Updates

At its general meeting in Frankfurt am Main, the German Olympic Sports Confederation determined the further path to the selection of the national applicant to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games. With a large majority, the delegates approved the timetable up to the decision at the extraordinary general meeting on September 26, 2026 in Baden-Baden.

It should then be clear whether the DOSB will enter the race for the 2036, 2040 or 2044 Summer Games with Berlin, Munich, Hamburg or the Rhine-Ruhr region with Cologne as the core city. “Out of four very strong applications, the strongest will emerge as the winner in the end. And whoever manages that will also have a good international chance of bringing the Olympic and Paralympic Games to Germany – not just for themselves, but for all of Germany,” said DOSB President Thomas Weikert.

Evaluation matrix to help

The basis for the selection of the candidate should be a complicated matrix that includes various categories and criteria such as international appeal and national acceptance. The four concepts are to be evaluated using this matrix.

The DOSB wants to approach the path as a united front despite the four-way battle. “All of us here stand behind the Olympics in Germany – without exception, united and strong,” said Weikert.

“Sports policy goal of this legislative period”

Sports Minister of State Christiane Schenderlein confirmed that the black-red federal government supports a German bid for the Olympics. “The application for the Olympic and Paralympic Games is the sports policy goal of this legislative period,” explained the CDU politician.
