Borussia Dortmund – Borussia Mönchengladbach 2:0 (1:0)
Borussia Dortmund won the first game on matchday 15 in the Bundesliga 2-0 against Borussia Mönchengladbach. Thanks to the win, Dortmund are currently in second place in the table, while Gladbach are in eleventh place.
In the tenth minute, Dortmund took the lead with a goal from Julian Brandt. However, the goal was preceded by a foul by Dortmund. Since the referee allowed play to continue and the VAR did not intervene, the goal still counted. The Gladbachers showed commitment in the game, but played too imprecisely to put Dortmund in trouble.
Another Dortmund goal shortly before half-time did not count due to an offside position. Shortly before the final whistle, Dortmund managed to extend their lead. In stoppage time (90+7), Maximilian Beier scored to make the final score 2-0.
“We wanted to kill the game earlier. We also had chances. But in the end we are happy that we won 2-0,” said Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha on Sky after the game. Gladbach’s Philipp Sander said his team “ultimately lacked consistency in the opponent’s box.”
The victory – just in time for the 116th anniversary of the Dortmund club’s founding – should calm the previously tense situation at BVB somewhat. Dortmund had only won three of the previous nine competitive games.
