Dortmund Manager Departs: Latest News

Sascha Fligge worked at Borussia Dortmund as Director of Media and Communications for 14 years, making him one of the club’s most important figures in terms of public relations and media work. Now BVB and the 48-year-old will part ways.

On Thursday, Borussia Dortmund initially reported this news on its club homepage. Sascha Fligge later posted a personal post on the LinkedIn platform and addressed emotional words to his long-time employer.

“After 14 years as Director of Communications at Borussia Dortmund, I say today: It was an honor. Thank you for everything!” wrote the previous Communications Director of the Black and Yellows, who took over his position from Josef Schneck in the summer of 2011.

“What I was able to experience in these 14 years is enough to last several lifetimes,” Fligge continued, recalling both sporting and emotional highs and lows such as winning the double in 2012, the Champions League finals in 2013 and 2024, working with Jürgen Klopp, the bomb attack on the team bus and the arduous work during the coronavirus pandemic.

“High peaks, deep valleys, emotional events, wild change. Borussia Dortmund. I appreciate all of it very much,” Fligge continued.

BVB managing director Cramer with words of thanks

It is not yet known what will happen next for the Iserlohn native.

On Thursday, the BVB management also addressed the public and thanked Fligge for the many years of successful cooperation: “To spend such a long time at a single company in a management role is something very extraordinary these days – and especially in the fast-moving media business. We thank Sascha for the very good and valuable cooperation at all times and wish him all the best for his personal and professional future and continued success,” said Borussia Dortmund’s management spokesman, Carsten Cramer, at the BVB homepage quoted.
