CAIRO (Egypt) – As 2023 silver medalists Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) made their return to the Women’s Basketball League Africa (WBLA), shooting guard Sara Dickey led the charge as the team won 83-64 against Cameroon’s FAP.
Dickey and Ivorian international Alima Doumbia combined for 39 points.

The American scored a game-high 23 points, hitting 6 of 11 shots inside and adding two crucial three-pointers in eight attempts. She missed just one free throw.
Doumbia added 16 points for the Dockers. Dickey, who previously played for Egyptian teams Misr Insurance and El Tayaran, got off to a slow start, scoring three points in the first quarter as KPA dominated 23-15.
The former University of Evansville star’s first three-pointer in the second quarter brought the Kenyan team’s lead to double digits (28-17) two minutes after the start. She scored her second shot in the final minutes to close the quarter 21-13, with KPA leading by 16 points at the break.
As FAP tried to come back in the final period, Dickey scored 14 points, his eight points in the third quarter virtually sealing the victory for the team coached by Nabil Kabalan.
She added seven rebounds, one less than Doumbia who leads the ranking, totaled four interceptions and three assists for an evaluation of 23.
Chatting with FIBA.basketball, Dickey said: “We started well but then in the second half we kind of took the pressure off a little bit once we were in the lead, so that’s something we need to improve on. We need to stay engaged for the full 40 minutes, but I think we’re going to get better every game.”
“Today I was trying to do what the team needed at the time, with a lot of dialogue, especially around defense, to keep everyone united and cohesive. We’re still working on our chemistry with some new additions to the squad and a new coach, but I think we’re getting there,” concluded Dickey.
