A video starring Slovak football representative Denis Vavro has been circulating on social networks for several days.
The defender of Bundesliga VfL Wolfsburg took part in an indoor tournament in Preseľany before Christmas, where he got into a conflict with an opponent’s player.
The conflict escalated, even the spectators watching the events from the balcony got involved. The footballer reacted with irritation, took off his shirt and ran across the deck to reach the spectators on the balcony. However, he returned after a while and continued to passionately discuss with fans.
The footballer responded to the video with an apology on Instagram. “I’m very sorry for the incident that happened at the tournament, which I like to participate in. A fight broke out on the board, I just wanted to calm the guys down when one of the spectators started insulting my mother. That’s when I succumbed to my emotions, but I didn’t hit anyone, I didn’t hurt anyone.”
After Christmas, however, another video of the incident appeared on milujufotbal’s profile, where the conflict culminated in a slap. Denis Vavro gave it to a young man on the board. Immediately the referee showed him a red card. The angry football representative had to be forcibly dragged off the field.
“During the match, there was an incident that was caught on video. After one of the fights, Vavro came out onto the field, took off his shirt, aggressively ran around the field and made gestures towards the fans, inviting them to come down from the stands to follow him.
At this point, I was on the field, without any verbal or physical interaction on my part. When Mr. Vavro ran towards me, I raised my hands to show that I didn’t want a conflict. Despite that, he slapped me,” the aforementioned young man described the conflict.
Denis Vavro responded to the new video with another statement through the spokeswoman of the Slovak Football Association (SFZ) Monika Jurigová for Denník Šport.
“I would like to apologize once again for my behavior during the tournament, I am sorry for what happened. I realize that even though provocations were directed at me, I must not react in this way.
It was over the line and inappropriate from my position as a player of the Slovak national football team. I already called the boy and apologized to him personally. I will definitely be careful in the future so that nothing like this happens again.”
