Present in the NFL finals for a decade, Patrick Mahomes’ Kansas City Chiefs were eliminated from the race for the play-offs by losing 16-13 on Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers. The Chiefs, champions in 2020, 2023 and 2024 and finalists in 2021 and 2025 in the North American US football championship, had not missed the final stages since 2014.

Their record for the 2025-2026 financial year is negative (6-8) after three defeats in a row. Their quarterback Patrick Mahomes was hampered by a left knee injury this season and will therefore not play a sixth Super Bowl.
