Chaumont High School Students Try Pickleball

Students from Decomble high school benefited from six introductory pickleball sessions. The last one took place at the Louis-Chaillot gymnasium, Thursday December 18 afternoon. Pickleball was introduced last September at Ecac Tennis for which Mireille Durand-Poe, delegate of the Grand-Est Tennis League, is the referent. She initiated two CAP and public works baccalaureate classes.

This sport was born in America in 1965. It is played with solid rectangular rackets with rounded corners and rigid perforated balls of approximately 7 cm in diameter, on a court four times smaller than that of tennis. Those drawn for badminton are suitable. The net must be 86 cm high in the middle. You can play singles or doubles.

Pickleball is a mix of ping pong and tennis. The reduced size of the field allows for more simultaneous games. Pickleball is as intense as tennis, the lightness of the equipment makes it physically less traumatic. The only drawback is the noise of the balls, designed to bounce 75 cm, when they fall from 95 cm.

It is forbidden to play outdoors less than 200 m from any home. The students interviewed are won over. For Axel, “it’s a nice discipline”. For Laurent, “it’s a good warm-up”. Already a tennis player, Mindy really enjoyed it. Mireille Durand-Poe is ready to intervene in any other establishment. All you have to do is contact Ecac or the Tennis League.
