The 20-year-old young man therefore chose to make his hobby his profession. He gives group lessons for the Calgary club and individual lessons privately. “The Asian population is very large in Calgary and therefore fond of the discipline.”
Charles Fouyn continues to attend internationally, but only on the American continent to avoid costly trips to Europe. His club helps him financially to enable him to register for these tournaments.
He recently participated in a tournament in Santo Domingo, where he took second place in mixed with his partner. “He lost in the singles quarterfinal in Santo Domingo at the end of October against a Mexican player against whom he still has to win. But it had gone from negative temperatures in Canada to summer temperatures in a very humid atmosphere. His opponent resisted the playing conditions better“, points out Nicolas Fouyn.
In Guatemala in November, he played in the singles quarter-final, beaten 22-20 in style. He followed it up at the end of November with a tournament in San Salvador where he won silver in singles and doubles, always with his girlfriend. “The tournaments are of a lower level than in Europe. Asian players move to Europe, not the American continent. But international tournaments earn the same number of points.”
Charles Fouyn has given up on his ambitions for progression at the global level. “He no longer has the same supervision, therefore no longer the same level of training. At best, we can expect its level to stagnate. His priorities are now different. After four months spent in Canada, we feel fulfilled“, says his dad.
