Bottrop: Women’s Workshop to Boost Youth Engagement – 2026

The aim of the project is to get girls and women excited about the sport of badminton and to integrate them more closely into the club in the long term. Women are currently significantly underrepresented in the sport of badminton – and also in their own clubs. The association would like to actively counteract this imbalance.

The workshop is aimed exclusively at beginners and female members who have only recently become part of the club, and is intended to create a protected space in which the participants can develop further in sport, get to know each other and grow together as a group. In the long term, the club hopes that this will not only create a stronger community, but also a broader roster of teams with more women.

Several workshop dates are planned where basic badminton knowledge will be taught. The workshop is free thanks to funding received. It starts on February 25, 2026.

A special feature of the project is that the workshop is led by homegrown trainer Safia Binder and youth player Lisa Jakubowski (U17). For the latter, the project represents the first experience as a trainer. In this way, the club consciously promotes young commitment and takes responsibility for the training of its own offspring. Lisa will then take part in the first coaching courses and be integrated into the coaching team in the long term.

With the women’s workshop, the club wants to create new perspectives, strengthen young women and, in the long term, develop the club structure in a sustainable and diverse way. Registrations are now being accepted at safia@bottroperbg.de.

The workshop dates:
