Botafogo: Martín Anselmi Named New Coach

O Botafogo announced this Monday (22) the hiring of the Argentine coach Martin Anselmiex-Porto.

The 40-year-old coach signed a contract with Glorioso until the end of 2027 and arrives to occupy the position left by Davide Ancelotti.

Along with the coach, assistants Luis Piedrahita and Pablo De Muner, physical trainer Diego Bottaioli and goalkeeper trainer Darío Herrera also arrive at the club. Everyone is expected in Rio de Janeiro on January 4th.

Anselmi was free on the market after being fired from Porto following his elimination in the Club World Cup. He recently negotiated his return to Argentina to direct the Newell’s Old Boysbut the talks did not progress. Before that, he went through Blue Cross (Mexico), Valley Independent (Ecuador) and Union La Calera (Chile).

Former assistant to Spanish Miguel Ángel Ramírez, having worked in Internationalin 2021, the coach never hid his desire to return to Brazilian football.

Martín Anselmi is the eighth coach of Botafogo’s SAF era, which began in March 2022. Before him, Luís Castro, Bruno Lage, Lúcio Flávio, Tiago Nunes, Artur Jorge, Renato Paiva and Davide Ancelotti held the position.
