Bart Verhaeghe wants to make Club Brugge not only the largest in Belgium, but also a leading team in Europe. The chairman of Blauw-Zwart wants Club Brugge to increasingly focus on AI to stay ahead of the competition.

Verhaeghe indicates that this is not achieved in a 1-2-3 manner, but that Club Brugge is much further ahead in that area than many large clubs. In addition to Club Brugge, Verhaeghe also wants to continue learning about artificial intelligence.
“I really enjoy asking ChatGPT a question,” says the chairman. “I do that every day. (enthusiastic) Now imagine: ‘You are on a plane, you have internet and the pilot dies…’ You would learn a lot via ChatGPT,” says Verhaeghe.
Putting together the core of Club Brugge is not yet done by AI. “But models have been made for this, based on our football vision. How do we play? What should a player be able to do in which position? What is the load?”, Verhaeghe gives as guidelines.
“We scout through data analysis and select the players who have the potential to meet those parameters. Attracting the right players is a huge job. I can assure you: that is a team of sometimes 15 to 20 people that comes to a professionally supported decision,” concludes Verhaeghe on behalf of Club Brugge.
