Portuguese was not called up for the Turkish Cup game, which featured a special reunion between two other ex-Benfica players, the Turks Kokçu and Akturkoglu
The soap opera continues. Rafa Silva had returned to Besiktas’ squad in the last match against Rizespor (1-0), but the Portuguese was once again not called up by Sergen Yalcin for the trip to Fenerbahçe’s ground, this Tuesday, counting for the first round of the Turkish Cup.
Even without one of their best players, the team of Tiago Djaló and Orkun Kokçu – Jota Silva is injured -, both starters, surprised and won dramatically, 2-1, with a goal in the 90th minute. On the other side, Kerem Akturkoglu, another ex-Benfica player, was in the starting lineup, but, for example, Talisca was rested.
The scoring was opened in the 33rd minute and by Vaclav Cerny, assisted by Tammy Abraham. José Mourinho’s former team still managed to react before the break and through a penalty, converted by Marco Asensio, in the 43rd minute. In the last moments of the second half, the Czech midfielder scored twice and silenced the fans in the stands.
This was the last game of the year for Besiktas, who will only play again on January 15, 2026, again for the Turkish Cup, but at home against Keciorengucu, from the second tier. It remains doubtful whether Rafa Silva will tell the coach at that time, with the winter market already open, but the objective will be to increase the unbeaten streak to eight games in a row.
