The plague
FC Barcelona is right on track in La Liga as league leaders with a four-point lead over rivals Real Madrid. They want to defend the Spanish championship and, in the best case scenario, they also want to win the Champions League. In order to achieve this goal, however, the hospital would have to thin out significantly in the second half of the season.
As ‘Sport’ reports, 23 Catalan players have already dropped out this season. If you count the reserve team, you even get 43 players. Only Eric García, Jules Koundé, Pau Cubarsí, Gerard Martín and Roony Bardghji were available for every game. The Blaugrana’s resolution for the coming year should be clear: stay fit.
Rules are rules
Andy Carroll hasn’t been making headlines in sports for a long time. The striker spent last season at Girondins Bordeaux before joining Dagenham & Redbridge in the English fifth division last summer. But his involvement there could be short-lived; Carroll is threatened with prison.
According to the ‘Sun’, the 36-year-old has to appear in court. The reason is an incident in the spring. In April, Carroll was briefly arrested for allegedly violating a restraining order the month before. No further details are given. In the worst case scenario, Carroll faces five years in prison.
