The Top 12 badminton meeting was important in more than one way this Saturday evening at the Pors Moëlou Gymnase, for the Rostrenois players of course but also for the managers and partners of the Bad’Club and a crowd of supporters who were still strong.
It is true that the Kreiz Breizh players had traveled well during this first leg which they were preparing to conclude with two successes in Bordeaux and Mulhouse but the results at home were rather mixed. Certainly there was this draw with the scent of success at the opening against Strasbourg but also a less exciting setback against Volant Airois on November 8. Clearly, it became urgent to finally win at home, thus offering a great gift to everyone before Christmas and consolidating an unexpected second place at this stage of the competition.
For this, the Rostrenois leaders had pulled out all the stops. “Tonight we are fielding the biggest team in the club’s entire existence! » Just that…!
With the way
The match began with the mixed and if the pair Léo Van Gysel – Beiwen Zhang logically lost, Jiahao Yu who had not played at Rostrenen since covid and who had returned to China for studies, made a successful comeback. Associated with Xuefei Qi, he scored the first Rostrenois point of the evening.
Return to the Pors Moëlou room also for the Irishman of Vietnamese origin Nath Nguyen, world n°30, who dominated Barbieri while Haase lost to the suspense goal in a breathtaking 3rd set (23-25). And as Romane Cloteaux-Foucault made short work of her opponent in the women’s singles, Rostrenen led by 3 to 2 with two games remaining, to the extent that the women’s doubles was not played due to the withdrawal of the Aix pair.
All that remained was to put the icing on the cake to consolidate a second place halfway through and give Little Thumb wings for the second phase. Beaten 24-22 in the first set, Jiahao Yu and Xuefei Qi won the 3rd handily and Beiwen Zhang made short work of Mitsova. Snatch success also for the Nguyen-Yu duo in a contested 3rd set and Rostrenen had fulfilled his mission in style.
Final score 6 to 2, the ladies’ doubles not having been played due to the withdrawal of the Aix pair.
