Not without difficulty, Asvel ended up getting the better of Bayern Munich (76-74), this Wednesday at home, in an evening where Nando De Colo crossed the 5,000 point mark in the Euroleague. The 38-year-old leader from Villeurbanne is the second player to pass this symbolic milestone in the Euroleague after Mike James, the American playing master from Monaco.
His performance (“5000 points and still there”) was praised on the Asvel X account. De Colo, author of eight points but injured, remained on the bench after the break. After four consecutive defeats, Asvel, 20th and bottom of the competition, took advantage of this poorly ranked duel against Bayern, 18th after six defeats in a row, to get back on the path to success.
Leading at the break (42-38), Pierric Poupet’s men were in distress during the third quarter (24-9) before finding the thread and winning in the final seconds. Trailing by one point 30 seconds from the end, the Rhôdaniens took advantage of the precision shooting of Thomas Heurtel and a saving circle cleanup from Shaquille Harrison to win.
