Aston Martin has reportedly set its sights on Gianpiero Lambiase, Max Verstappen’s regular racing engineer. After an emotional Lambiase showed up during the Abu Dhabi GP, rumors about his future at Red Bull are spreading through the paddock. Aston Martin would like to bring in the Brit for a managerial position within the team. If Lambiase indeed considers that, a reunion with Adrian Newey also awaits him.
It was a striking moment after the Abu Dhabi GP: a visibly emotional Gianpiero Lambiase at the pit wall. Max Verstappen afterwards explained why his regular racing engineer shed a tear at the end of the race. “It was an emotional year,” the Dutchman said in the press conference. “I don’t want to say too much about it, but it was tough. At the same time, I am very happy to work with someone who is so passionate. Of course he is my race engineer, but I also see him as a friend. We have had so many emotional moments together and delivered fantastic performances.”

After that moment, rumors about the future of Lambiase immediately spread through the paddock. Several sources reported that the Briton’s role has not yet been determined for next season, and that Red Bull is considering what is desirable for Lambiase during the winter break due to his personal situation. Now there is the next rumor that Aston Martin is interested in a collaboration with ‘GP’, as Lambiase is also known in Formula 1.

The British racing team would like to offer the racing engineer a managerial position within the Formula 1 team, multiple sources report. Lambiase’s possible new role fits in with Aston Martin’s further restructuring plans. If the Briton indeed makes the switch to the racing stable, a reunion with Adrian Newey awaits him. The former Red Bull top designer is the new team boss of Aston Martin, and previously worked with Lambiase at the Austrian racing team.
