After the Las Vegas Grand Prix, Adrian Newey was appointed team boss by Aston Martin. A striking choice by the team, as they were still talking to Andreas Seidl in the months before Newey’s appointment. The German was also in the picture to become team boss of Aston Martin, but would prefer a position of CEO.
This is a role that is still possible for Seidl at Aston Martin, but he would fill it completely differently than Zak Brown does at McLaren. Within Lawrence Stroll’s team there was also talk about recruiting Mattia Binotto. The Italian is alone at Audi and hopes to make big steps there in the coming years, especially in the engine department of the new Formula 1 team.
Gianpiero Lambiase, Max Verstappen’s race engineer, is also linked to Aston Martin, which is another sign that the team is doing everything it can to strengthen the organization. However, it does not seem that Lambiase would be close to a switch yet, but logically teams report to the successful engineer. Rumors are also circulating that McLaren has contacted Lambiase. For the time being, however, these are only rumors and Aston Martin is mainly missing the mark.
Departure of Cowell and Krack?
Until recently, Andy Cowell was the team boss of Aston Martin, but was officially pushed aside before the Qatar GP. Cowell would take on the role of chief strategist, although it remains to be seen whether it will be a temporary position before he leaves or whether he will actually stay on board.
The same goes for Mike Krack. He is also still employed by Aston Martin, but it is unclear whether he will remain so in the long term. There are also rumors going around about Krack that he is no longer satisfied with the team. Whether Cowell and Krack stay on or not, the fact is that these respected and capable names have provided little stability.
If it leads to a split, it would be a big loss for the team. With Cowell and Krack, a lot of technical knowledge is lost and that will have to be compensated. That is why it is not surprising that Aston Martin looks around and throws out different lines. The team seems to have a particular chance of a possible arrival of Seidl, who will want to take revenge for his failed period at Audi and brings a lot of knowledge.
Seidl has a technical background and could play a major role with his experience in technical, management and sporting areas. That’s exactly what Aston Martin seems to be looking for. For now, however, there is still interest between Seidl and Aston Martin. As a result, there is a good chance that several more technical names will end up in the rumor mill.
