Arab Cup: Morocco’s Sacred Run

Morocco won the Arab Cup at the end of a suspenseful final against Jordan (3-2 ap), magnified by a goal from more than 50 meters, Thursday in Lusail in Qatar, three days before the start of the African Cup of Nations at home.

Already crowned in 2012, the Atlas Lions win 3-2 and register their name for the second time on the list of winners of this competition organized by Fifa, bringing together 16 selections from the Arab world. They succeed Algeria.

Although having fielded an additional team, without the stars who will be at the CAN (December 21-January 18), the Moroccans dominated the tournament, relying on the best defense on the board (1 goal conceded before the final).

However, opposed in the final to the best attack, they trembled for a long time, untilAbderrazak Hamdallah don the hero’s costume.

The scorer from the Saudi club Al-Shabab equalized at the very end of the match to snatch extra time (88th), before offering the trophy to his team, doubling the lead in the 100th minute.

But the image which marked this meeting with twists and turns remains that of the Moroccan opening score signed Oussama Tannane (4th): a lob of more than 50 meters, which could have applied for the Puskas goal of the year prize… if it had not been awarded last Tuesday.

The Jordanians scored Ali Olwanauthor of a double (48th and 68th).

The Morocco welcomes the CAN on its territory from Sunday, with the status of favorite. In the opening match on Sunday in Rabat, the Moroccans will face the Comoros.
